The Capital Regional District (CRD) Board recently approved the Regional Food and Agriculture Strategy – “Setting Our Table”. The Strategy aims to enhance awareness of local agricultural issues and opportunities and increase local food production.
Derek Masselink, a consultant who worked on the Regional Food and Agriculture strategy, will present the strategy. Derek is currently a regional agrologist with the Ministry of Agriculture. Our panelists will follow Derek’s presentation to tell us how local plans are complementing the regional strategy. See more hereA summary was prepared by Gerard V. Change to Constitution

In Food CHI’s Strategic Plan 2020, a strategy was identified to review governance structures and accountabilities including goals and vision. Nearing 10 years from the society creation, the Food CHI Board reviewed the initial wording in our founding documents and where we are today.

After several months of deliberations, the Board members determined that promoting and advocating for improved community health by encouraging sustainable food sources best fit our purpose. The Board envisions everyone in the Sooke Food CHI region having access to nutritious local food from field to table.

The Board will present a motion at the Annual General Meeting on February 9, 2017, for members attending to rescind the existing purposes of Sooke Region Food CHI Society’s constitution and replace with the recommended purpose, vision and mission statements here.

About Our AGM

Sooke Region Food CHI Society, first formed in 2007, a voluntary organization with over 250 members, has accomplished a lot to increase access to local foods, support our farmers, and encourage others to grow food to get to the table. There is much our organization still needs to accomplish, working hand in hand with our local governments, members and communities.

Annual General Meetings are designed for the membership to review, comment on and provide input on the activities and direction of the society. With such a broad and important mandate as ours – supporting a vibrant local food system – it really will take a whole community to meet that mandate.
