4th Annual Apple Fest
Sunday, September 17, 10 am – 2 pm
Sunriver Community Gardens – Community Orchard.
2380 Phillips Road, Sooke
A celebration of harvests, local foods and community. A family fun event.
Get set for Sooke’s 4th annual Apple Festival, a day celebrating the town’s agricultural heritage and distinctive apple varietals. Admission is by donation.
What to expect: Sooke’s Apple Fest is an event that celebrates all things apples including apple sales, apple identification, apple bobbing, hand-pressed apple juice, apple tasting and orchard tours. There will also be lively music with the Chick Wagon Band, fun games for the kids and vendors featuring local foods and products!
Apple Identification: Do you have an apple tree that you don’t know what type of apple it is? Ann Aylard, president of the BC’s Fruit Tree Testing organization will be available to identify your apples.
Make your Own Apple Juice: We are featuring our new apple press! Apple Fest attendees can press their own juice to take home! Bring at least 15 pounds of apples and your containers. Containers should be wide mouthed with tight lids. Bring a cooler to store your juice. Apples should be mature, washed, and must be free from decay.
What to bring: A market bag for any treats or produce to take home, sunscreen (you will certainly want to stay for several hours, if not longer), a picnic blanket.
Where to find it: The Sunriver Community Gardens is located on Phillips Road, not far up from the Sooke Region Museum. Follow the signs.
Want to volunteer? there lots of volunteer opportunities for set up, hosting, kids activities, apple pressing, pie auction and more. Sign up here or contact Anita at firstname.lastname@example.org
